2 /5 Tom Codling: Im not sure what I was expecting after 8 weeks closed, but I guess I was expecting SOMETHING.
This place wass closed due to a burst water main for 8 weeks, there was a total lack of information from the gym - fairly reasonable stuff like "this is how long we expect to be closed for", instead customer service fed you some nonsense about how "weve opened all other gyms for you to use" - amazing, so instead of the one thats 5 minutes walk from my house, I get to trek 30 minutes each way in the car to Sevenoaks, just to see how much nicer their gym is?
So the place reopened, and of course all extended access to other gyms was immediately removed.
So what happened in those 8 weeks? Apparently nothing - same beat up lockers in the changing room, the Yanga machine completely malfunctioning (resettign itself after every use where it just gives you water without flavour), same aging equipment.
They could have replaced the labels on the weight stacks in the cable machines so you can actually see how much weight youre adding without guessing, they didnt. They could have replaced the outdated benches in the weights room, they didnt.
Every other Pure Gym Ive been to in the time this one was closed has the dumbells organised by weight, with labels so people know where to put them back, and a culture where theyre actuallty encouraged to put them back in their proper place (staff appear to check regularly that theyre not in a state) - not in Orpington - just stick em anywhere.
The funny thing is that a lot of the cardio equipment was refreshed recently, but they all come with USB-A charging ports - bleeding edge tech there!
I believe its time to go to The Gym Group instead - at least with them, I can use the gyms close to home and close to the office for one price. PureGym crank up the price by £16 a month if I want to use central London locations.
This location is wondderfully convenient, but the bad is starting to outweigh the good
Any idea where 50kg is for lat pulldowns??
