2 /5 Ethan Connor: A very disappointing experience. I booked a VO2 and Lactate Threshold test in September 2025. The main issue was with defects in the equipment and the consequent test results which could not be relied upon. Primarily, the heart rate monitors didnt work. They had to be changed two or three times during the lactate threshold test as for long stretches they didnt work and were not giving out readings. The test results that came back were, unsurprisingly, wildly inaccurate (i.e. completely at odds with previous results and ongoing lactate testing over the last two years). I cannot, therefore, rely on the test results. I asked for a refund for that part of the test almost two months ago but no refund has been forthcoming. There were also other, relatively minor, issues. Despite the website stating the test could be performed on a treadmill, Wattbike or rowing erg, I wasnt asked beforehand which I would prefer and when I arrived a treadmill had been set up. I explained that I couldnt use a treadmill so I had to wait whilst a bike could be found and set up. Then they couldnt find any pedals. Then, when they found the pedals, they couldnt get them on the bike. They tried to take my weight on body composition scales but couldnt get the scales to work. It was all a bit of a shambles. I have previously been tested at St Marys in Twickenham and they were outstanding albeit its a long way to go. The Altitude Centre has a great location and the people who work there are very pleasant; its just a shame the equipment falls short and that I have spend a material sum of money on getting test results that are of no use whatsoever.
