1 /5 Alisa Lysenko: My brother was practising a handstand when he fell onto a glass bottle that another member had brought into the gym. The bottle smashed and caused a deep cut to his glute. I genuinely don’t understand why glass bottles are allowed in a gym, it’s common sense that this is extremely dangerous.
What made this so much worse was the staff response. Instead of helping, staff members stood around chatting as if nothing had happened. There was blood on the floor and broken glass everywhere, yet no urgency, no attempt to make the area safe, and no proper first aid provided. We had to ask repeatedly for basic items like sanitiser, and even then we were made to feel like we were overreacting.
The first aid kit contained nothing more than plasters and dressings, nothing to treat the wound, and staff clearly didn’t know what to do. Calling an ambulance was never offered, I had to suggest it myself, as we were worried there might still be glass in his injury. In the end, we were forced to deal with the situation on our own and leave, hoping there was no glass left.
The lack of care, professionalism and basic duty of care was shocking. This was the worst gym experience I’ve ever had. A gym is meant to be a safe environment and this one absolutely failed.
