1 /5 Matt E: They tout themselves as premium luxury state of the art facilities which may have been true when it first opened. It’s laughable - For £75 a month, the price does not reflect the facilities which are tired, run down and is littered with kit that is way past its sell by date. (I’m guessing most is at least 10-15 years old)
Instead of pumping money into updating the facilities which give off school PE hall vibes, they’ve blown money on a reverse rebrand after the disastrous 108gym attempt, and a new larger car park.
Not sure who they’re targeting for memberships as the demographic seems like an old persons care home with kit that wouldn’t pass the grade at any other self respecting gym. All the kit is ANCIENT with the exception of a couple of new ergs in the new hybrid zone they chaotically threw together - suspect it was a response to buzz gym opening down the road but even the new kit / zone was poorly thought out and executed. Hastily thrown together last minute and on a low budget…. The matting doesn’t extend to the whole area - people have to step through to enter the cycling studio, the kettlebells are always missing, the sleds are a joke - the sled push and pull zone must be barely 6 metres if that and risks a back injury to have to shove the sled around as the management clearly were clueless about fitness and didn’t think to get a sled that had removable poles or on both sides- no wonder they make you sign a disclaimer on joining as you risk a slipped disc in chucking the sled around to push it back. Throw in no way to attach a rope for sled pull and it’s all just a token gesture to even have sleds.
Do not consider this gym if you want to actually get a decent workout in - if you want to join the retired brigade and happily stroll on a treadmill or cycle for days then you’ll be happy with the old kit they have. If you want to do any form of hybrid training or strength with luxury state of the art kit, you will not find it here.
I cancelled my membership recently as it was clear the gym was not heading in the right direction. My girlfriend is also about to cancel - she also told me the women’s gym area is a joke. It has kit that doesn’t even identify as kit any normal fitness person would have seen before - weight machines are on a peg system (?!) which just plays into the stereotype about women’s fitness being sub par / second rate which is shocking given it’s 2025… why isn’t there normal weight graded kit (kgs etc) for the women’s area ? As my gf said - imagine the uproar if this was the available kit in the unisex area …
I joined Buzz gym which for a fraction of the price offers much more premium machines - granted it doesn’t have a swimming pool or sauna but given the sauna has been out of commission for an age, it doesn’t really make much difference as no credit / good will gesture was offered to members.
Also echo other comments - the men’s changing room smells of drains, the facilities are dirty, mirrors are cracked in the various areas and members definitely treat the place badly as a result… rude members don’t clean after themselves (even puregym where I used to be a member in calcot, would see members wipe down kit before and after use) and don’t get me started on people who leave plates on the barbells …
Save your money - and go to another gym instead. The mgmt are rude - it’s a shame as the trainers are great and you can see they do their best despite having to make do with woefully poor facilities… and reception are clueless and rude too… not what you want when you’re spending £75 a month.
The one star is purely for the trainers as they are better than the environment and their managers - and because I can’t give zero stars… it’s a shame as the place has so much potential but mgmt are clueless on how to maximise it
