Horsted Health Club - (Near , UK)

4 /5 Langrish-Dixon Clare (CLD): We stayed recently at the hotel for a short break so got to use the health club as hotel residents. The dressing rooms are clean and large with separate cubicles for dressing after showering. It was a shame that when we were there the jacuzzi was out of order but this wasn’t a major issue as the indoor pool was fantastic. Really large and a great temperature for swimming lengths. The only issue I’d raise is that we did have to wait a while for our rhassoul mud treatment and there were no clear instructions on what to do as it was self led. I ended up asking but it still wasn’t clear but we enjoyed the treatment nonetheless and our skin was left feeling super soft afterwards. There is a lovely looking cafe in the spa which had a festive afternoon tea on offer but we didn’t get a chance to use this whilst we were there. All in all, I’d say that the spa facilities are good, especially for a hotel spa but staff did seem a little preoccupied / busy.

2 /5 Evelina G: We visited the spa using day pass vouchers given to us a wedding present by our friends. The surrounding was really nice, easy to drive in and park. Receptionist lady was friendly and showed us everything. Unfortunately here our good experience finished. - changing room: not many lockers were working, floor dirty as many people wearing their outdoor shoes. - shower : no shower gel or shampoo or body lotion. Nothing in any shower, I’ve checked 5! Thankfully we had our toiletry. Flor is dirty, lots of hears, I don’t think I’ve seen any cleaners there . - Spa area: spacious, good steam room and sauna. Swimming pool is colder than usually in spa. Very noisy, not relaxing atmosphere at all, more like a public leisure centre. Over all we didn’t enjoy spa and won’t be coming back.

1 /5 steve helpmechef: Have a family membership. Will be cancelling soon for the following reasons. Coffee machine removed so no bevarages available. this was available when membership was taken out. Pool areas. Lots of lockers that either do not lock or are locked in an open state. No one seems interested in unlocking them so they can be used. Water fountain not working and no cups, apart from used ones scattered about the place. Showers not properly maintained & leaking, empty soap dispensers, I tried 4! Generally tired and lack of maintenance and management. My wife uses the gym which is good. I sometimes come and meet her to use the gym and then swim. I nearly always regret it just because of how it used to be and the decline I have noticed over the years. The noise in the pool areas and the behaviour of members makes it akin to a public baths and not a hotel. people shouting from one end of the pool to the other. This is every visit and there is zero supervision by the hotel to ensure guests behave as they should in an hotel environment. I cannot imagine anything like this happening at South Lodge. Maybe it is just the sort of clientelle this establishment encourages. Everything is tired and poorly maintained. Staff generally seem to remain at the desk all the time whilst things are a mess. Bit like Lidl on a Sunday! The very worst thing about the whole place is that it never improves! Look at the reviews. Most are saying the same as me and they go back a couple of years. This shows a complete disregard by the General Manager and his team of both members and guests enjoyment of what should be nice facilities. Severe management failure throughout for prolonged period of time. We used the spa for treatments and the girls were great but as with many others, cold rooms, cold showers. not even meeting customer expectation, never mind exceeding but consistently falling short. Hotel reviews seem to suggest tired lack of investment too. I have seen the install of new showers in the club areas but they soon became tired through lack of maintenance. Any manager reading this should take the bullet points and do a walk around with head of maintenance if there is such a thing and make a list! Then address the issues. And replace the silly piddley little hot water machine on reception cafe desk with a decent bean to cup machine with coffee in it! Shame I wont be there to see it. Penny pinching at its worst. I bet you only put 1 packet of biscuits in the double rooms too because they contain 2 biscuits! 4* score is generous but any hotel group would be seen to be failing on guest service indicators on anything less than 95% I bet you dont even have an action plan.

2 /5 Megan Louise Rose: Great equipment in the gym and that’s the only positive I’m afraid. Pool is cold. Staff can’t be bothered with customers who seem to be seen as an irritation. This place has great potential under the right management.

2 /5 Megan Louise: Came here a few weeks ago on a day pass and was utterly disappointed by the state of the place. The showers were filthy and filled with grime and mould, none of the staff were very friendly apart from the lady in the changing room (possibly cleaner?) who helped me with my locker and showed me where to go. The other lady at reception with dark curly hair was very rude and withdrawn and it felt as though she was too busy to help me. For the price not worth it will not be coming back anytime soon.
