1 /5 Jake H: Without a doubt the worst gym in London I’ve ever used. The Gym Group is usually the better quality cheap gym chain, but this Tooting branch is an abomination and way below the usual standards and quality of this company.
It’s tiny, the basement which houses all free weights and some machines is a really horrible claustrophobic, window-less, low-ceilinged prison, the ceilings are so low they’re about 6.5 foot off the floor, meaning that when doing overhead presses with barbells the weights actually hit the ceiling and air conditioning units (see photos, surely a health & safety violation). Air con units also leak water right into the deadlifting area, causing slippages.
The basement dumbbell area is chaos, there are no labels or order meaning it takes forever to find the weights you need. They also block the mirrors rendering them useless. They also block the deadlift area blocking people in and meaning everyone is all on top of each other when trying to work out.
The basement just is completely unsuitable to be used as a gym, too small, too crowded, too dangerous. No idea how this ever got planning permission approval
Upstairs is not much better, the cable machines are all missing attachments meaning whilst they’re might be 10 cables for use, people queue waiting for one of the 2 bar attachments etc.
This gym also smells awful, the stench of BO hits you as soon as you come into the porch. The gym can’t help that most of its users seem to stink / not wear deodorant, but it could help by greatly improving the ventilation to resolve the issue so that it doesn’t impact other users who do practice personal hygiene
Finally, the changing rooms are for some reason locked / PIN access only at all hours of the day, not just during night time as is the norm at other gyms. Why? This gym gets incredibly busy and having to queue again to enter the changing rooms is mind-boggling.
