5 /5 Jason Davis: I decided recently that Id review every Martial Arts club Ive been to in London, and knew New Cross Martial Arts would be the first Id do because of just how good it is in every aspect. Ive not been able to do any contact sport for a little over a year, but hopefully it wont be for too much longer until I can start again.
Their Judo training is rigorous but focussed. The teachers, Neil, Marc, Stephen and Brian, are able to help and pinpoint what needs to be done to improve your form and technique with good coaching and solid advice. All of the coaches there have years of legitimate experience under their belts too, so youll be getting taught an effective, honest and real style.
Class was usually split in 3 parts; warm-up, Kata (technique/practice) and Randori (sparring). The end of the session having a focus on Randori let you apply new knowledge from the session youd just had. The club made a great crowd, encouraging everybody who took part.
One of the biggest highlights for me when I was at NCMA were the people - all extremely nice and welcoming, with a diverse crowd of people and senior (18+) ages. Unlike a lot of other clubs Ive been to, I never came back home from NCMA with a negative impression of somebody.
Pricing is fair and a little under what youll be paying for a lot of other clubs in London from my experience, but their money is well spent with firm mats and equipment.
If you want to go to and learn any kind of grappling-based Martial Art in London, Id fully recommend NCMA for Judo. Its a solid choice and I hope Ill be heading back as soon as Im able. Youll make friends and youll also learn and retain some truly valuable and concise skill in a great sport thanks to the high quality of the teachers there.
