2 /5 Mýa Samra: I just came for a wash and blow dry on my birthday. I was around 15 minutes late and the woman at the reception desk was super friendly and accommodating, I was asked to wait a little while so they could do the next client (because I was late and they had much shorter hair). So both stars are for her.
I was offered a treatment masque while I waited for an extra £10, but my hair wasn’t actually washed properly. I think it was someone in training, but she barely touched my scalp and completely avoided the back of my head, then left in a treatment masque for around ten mins. I felt a little like because I’d been late and they’d been accommodating I shouldn’t say anything, but looking back now I definitely should have and that’s my bad.
The senior stylist who ended up doing my blow dry was very disrespectful. I was lead away from the wash basin by my head, and forced to crane my neck as she leant on it to turn around and speak to someone else. I showed her a photo of the type of blowout I wanted (it was a picture of my own hair so definitely doable), and met with silence until I asked for an answer as to whether it was possible, then a grunt. The blow dry itself was mostly fine and didn’t take long, but she was hitting and scraping my face with the round brush (sharp!) until I asked her to stop. The result looked ok in the salon lighting, and she gave a bit more volume where I asked. Because of my hair being improperly washed it was simultaneously dry at the ends and sort of oily at the scalp. I can tell I only have today left of the blowout with the help of dry shampoo before I have to wash it out. So it will have lasted from around 7pm last night until this evening. I can usually make a blow out last 3 days.
I found out at the end of the appointment, after a sort of miserable experience that the reason for the disrespect was most likely because I was assumed younger than I actually am (aged down in a hoodie and sweatpants) and the senior stylist went on a short rant about the sensitivity of teenagers. I’m 27. Not that it really matters, everyone deserves basic respect, especially if they’re paying for a service. I paid and left and will not return.
I booked via treatwell and the reviews were very positive so I really expected more. I wasn’t able to leave a review there as I think it’s email invitation only from the salon.
