2 /5 Maria Tanjala: I have been a PureGym customer for a decade or more and the state of this gym is shocking and disappointing to say the least. If you look at this gym compared to the one in Hammersmith or even the one 15 minutes up to road in Oval, it’s a blatant discrimination of the demographic in Peckham. There’s never toilet paper, nor blue roll, the toilets are disgusting and super messy and very rarely there’s staff on site. I go to the gym 3/4 times a week and have never seen a cleaner in 8 months attending this facility. The machines can stay broken for weeks. There are just two bikes and one was out of service for two weeks. The space is tiny with only a few machines and it’s always crowded. The mirror, basic but much needed to observe posture, is practically inexistent. They “refurbished” the upstairs for over a week and closed the whole floor and honestly, when it was reopened there wasn’t any noticeable change, no new machines, nothing. It was laughable. They haven’t even emailed information about when the upstairs will reopen because the impression is that the management simply doesn’t care about the customers in Peckham. It left me disappointed that PureGym is not a brand, and doesn’t have any standards. They just save money on neighbourhoods where they don’t need to keep appearances, pricing them the same or slightly less than their main stream facilities. I really hope that a competitor reads these reviews and jumps on the opportunity, when surely a mass exodus will take place. I have to acknowledge that the few trainers who are here, are kind, supportive and knowledgeable. Just like the customers, they deserve better. It’s just corporate greed.
