3 /5 Oliver Ayris: Ive been going to this gym for a year now, so I thought Id share my experience for those considering joining it. I am on the ÂŁ70 a month rolling membership which only provides access to the gym at all times (no classes).
The gym is specd out quite well, with modern equipment and most things you could need, particularly considering its quite a small space. Management sorts out repairs fairly quickly when these are needed - I dont think Ive seen equipment out for more than a week (if not less). I also think its kept quite clean, although I used to go to ÂŁ20-30 per month gyms, so my expectations were low.
On the topic of hygiene, I used to have an allergic reaction to the hand lotion and the hand wash to a lesser extent. I stopped using the former and the latter has been changed to something better, but I think management should consider fragrance free and "for sensitive skin" products, to avoid issues like this.
I echo the sentiment of some other reviews that some of the staff is not approachable at all and act like youve bothered them. Also, there have been three occurrences where I was interrupted mid-set for something that could have easily waited another 20 seconds and to avoid a potential injury. I also think management should consider sending surveys for feedback and not expect customers to reach out with their views. As this is a relatively newly established business, at least to my knowledge, showing you are open to accommodating for needs you may have not considered would inspire some confidence.
Something that you should note is that you need your phone with you, with the Technogym app installed to be able to enter, which is extremely annoying. There are so many other ways, e.g. cards, fobs, pin pads, that could be available, but it doesnt seem like this is viewed as an issue.
Music is usually quite loud and only the same pop, R&B (?? how can one workout to this?) or electronic, all which could be the most generic AI output. Ive not heard a single guitar string being plucked through the speakers of this gym, which is frustrating for those that want some sort of rock or metal once in a while but would rather workout without earphones / headphones. Playing different types of music at different times, maybe even rotating the times, would be nice.
As others have said, tidyness with weights is not there, with people inconsiderably leaving them anywhere and theres no enforcement or gym etiquette you are asked to abide by during induction. People step on mats or benches with their shoes and then dont wipe them down, which is disgusting.
Finally, changes are made to the standard opening hours without any notification via email. I went to the gym last Sunday at 1930 (90 minutes before closing) and it was closed. Needless to say it was quite frustrating and I think an email during festive periods, bank holidays or other ad-hoc events is the bare minimum and something every other gym Ive been a member of has done.
