1 /5 Noon: Responding to the store’s response:
I have now lowered my star to one- not sure of the relevance of how long it took to write a review…
Also my hair is not tightly curled Afro, as it has been treated previously and has never been tightly curled Afro to start with.
Also yes my total was £120, as you added the £30 and you have provided waffle that does not negate the concerns I raised in the review.
Thank you.
I initially booked this salon via Treatwell for a roots and colour service. As there was no “roots only” option available, I had to select a half-head colour, which is more than what I required. They also didn’t have my exact colour, so I chose a similar shade after confirming it would be blended properly.
The booking included a blow-dry. I also enquired about a keratin treatment (which I’ve been doing for over 10 years) and was quoted £120 directly for shoulder-length hair. My hair appears voluminous but is not thick, with normal growth. I was encouraged to book directly with the salon, but I chose to book via Treatwell as there was a 40% promotion.
When I returned for the keratin treatment, the experience deteriorated. There were repeated complaints about the fact that I had booked through Treatwell. I was told that because my hair is naturally curly, it would need to be straightened twice, which I declined as I do not want straight hair. We agreed this would not be done and that I would not be charged extra.
The discussion then shifted to how much Treatwell takes in commission and that this was why I had been quoted £120 directly. I questioned why they would be listed on Treatwell if they were unhappy with how it works. They then changed the reasoning, saying it was due to how much hair growth I had. At one point, they showed me a photo they had taken of my hair without my knowledge. After further discussion, they eventually agreed my hair was shoulder-length and not thick.
During the appointment, I noticed how patchy the root colour was, and it appeared the stylist noticed this as well.
At checkout, I was still charged £120 instead of the Treatwell price, despite booking through the platform. At that point, it was clear I would not return.
Additionally, the salon plays Hindu music quite loudly. On my first visit, I asked if it could be lowered as the radio was also playing. On my second visit, the stylist mentioned to another staff member that I might find it loud; the response was a shrug and “I don’t care.”
Finally, I purchased one of their in-house hair product packages, only to later realise that none of the products had expiry dates, raising concerns about how long they may have been sitting on the shelf.
Overall, very unprofessional conduct, poor transparency around pricing, and a disappointing experience.
