1 /5 Kate Sharkey: I’m disgusted with the treatment given to my daughter (18) today whilst visiting the salon.
She arranged her appointment and showed reference photos for the colour wanted,a full head of highlights and tint - price confirmed for £160.
She confirmed that she was able to provide this service on my daughters loose curl, mixed race hair and she had experience with Afro hair, when my daughter arrived at the salon, all was discussed again.
Hairstylist began, she stated complaining that my daughter had to much hair and called over a trainee to help with the colour.
Meny comments were made to my daughter that was incredibly derogatory towards her, stating that her hair was to curly, she had to much hair,to difficult for her to work with,it’s to knotty, ratty, the African hair texture is hard to work with (she’s Caribbean and white, not that it needed to be explained to the woman) etc etc
She was incredibly rough with her hair, ripping and tugging on her hair, washing with just shampoo,no conditioning,my daughter repeatedly told her that she was now hurting her hair and head, the hairstylist also pulled out TWO helix ear piercings through carelessness and tugging, resulting in my daughters ear bleeding, which has been left sore and swollen, earrings lost to the salon floor, hairstylist mumbling a sorry.
On first removal of foils, hair had slices of colour placed unevenly and hairdresser had to add more in to make it even.
After hours in the salon,My daughter repeatedly told her the colour was incorrect and there was uneven placing and was told she’ll have to pay more if she wanted it different colour and that she must be insecure about what people think of her hair but she’ll do a root colour blend, which made no difference to the awful “highlights”. At this point my daughter was shaken and upset and wanted to leave, also noticing that other members of the public in the salon were also watching with some unease at her treatment, adding to her upset about the situation as she didn’t know what to do or say but knew she was right in feeling this way,as others were just as uncomfortable as her.
End result was a heavy handed and uneven balayage, with chunky slices instead of highlights, completely the wrong colour, even though a toner was included in original price made no difference to the colour she has now been left with and she so upset with the comments made to her.
And was made to pay £205.
We have used MODE for years (this was the first time since it’s new management) and we hate to bash an independent salon but we definitely won’t be going back and will not recommend. If the hairdresser didn’t know how to do Afro hair or the colouring that she was paid for,she should not have accepted or attempted to do so.
I’d give zero stars if I could.
