1 /5 R I: Iâve been a member at Energy Fitness Bethnal Green for 4 years so take my word for it. Any 5 star reviews are people who go to the gym once a week or even a month. Iâve stayed loyal hoping things would improve but sadly, the gym just keeps getting worse. Hereâs a breakdown of the current issues that members like me have had to deal with for far too long:
1. Cables Out of Order / Faulty: Thereâs been one cable machine thatâs been completely out of order for over 3 and a half months, and several of the other cables are still working but faulty. Basic maintenance on essential equipment just isnât happening.
2. Broken Weight Stacks: Some machines have weight stacks where itâs nearly impossible to insert the gym pin properly. Members have been forced to use black wires to hold the pin in, which is both unprofessional and dangerous.
3. Missing Weight Labels: Several weight stacks are missing their number labels, making it annoying and inconvenient to track your weight progression.
4. Inconsistent Cable Resistance: On dual cable machines, one side feels extremely rigid and heavy while the other side is smooth and normal. This makes it impossible to train evenly, especially for exercises like cable flys or presses.
5. Poor Temperature Control: The gym is often unbearably hot, especially on warmer days like today (30°C+). The air conditioning barely works (when itâs even on) and the windows are hardly opened enough to provide proper ventilation.
6. Removed Machines with No Replacements: When the gym got new equipment (around the time PureGym opened nearby), they removed many of the old, still-useful machines and replaced it with exercise mats! Thereâs now lots of wasted floor space, but no effort to bring in new machines members actually want.
7. Broken Promises on Repairs: Months ago, we were emailed and told that the first repair phase would start on June 5th, with more fixes to follow at a later date. Itâs now well past that, and nothing meaningful has been done except for some painting, which frankly no one asked for or cared about.
8. Damaged Cable Attachments: A lot of the cable attachments (ropes, bars, etc.) are damaged and frayed, making them unsafe and hazardous to use. These have been left in poor condition for months with no replacement.
9. The Cross Trainer Machine- Out of Order for Over a Year: Thereâs been a cross trainer collecting dust in the corner for over a year now. It was promised to be fixed a year ago and still hasnât been touched. Itâs just sitting there useless and taking up space.

Final Thoughts:
As someone whoâs been here for 4 years, Iâve enjoyed the first 3 years but this past year Iâve been patient with this new management, but enough is enough. The maintenance and care for the gym is non-existent, the equipment is falling apart, and management has been ignoring basic repair requests for months, even years in some cases.
For the price members are paying, this level of service is unacceptable. Unless thereâs a serious and immediate improvement, I wouldnât recommend this gym to anyone.
