1 /5 Fiona Cummings: I recently visited 123 @Beauty for a Lycon wax on my upper lip and chin, and a strip wax for my eyebrows. The beautician was friendly and kind, and she shaped my eyebrows beautifully, even offering me a £2 discount. For that, I’m grateful.
However, there were several issues during my appointment that need addressing:
Threading Without Consent
After waxing my eyebrows, the beautician proceeded to thread them for precision without asking if I was comfortable with this method. I had mentioned multiple times before and during the appointment that I have sensitive skin. Threading over freshly waxed skin is unnecessary and can lead to irritation or injury, as it did in my case. While a tweezer could have been used for precision on one or two stray hairs, threading caused significant discomfort.
Furthermore, she threaded my upper lip and chin after waxing, which was extremely painful and uncomfortable. I had already made it clear that I was not used to threading, and the lack of communication during this part of the treatment made it worse. Threading these areas after waxing is not only unnecessary but can also be damaging to sensitive skin.
Adverse Skin Reaction
The waxing and threading method caused stinging, which lasted all evening, and resulted in scabbing, hyperpigmentation, and even a pimple which is not so visible in the pictures as it just shows slight redness. Lycon wax is specifically designed for sensitive skin, and beauticians are trained to avoid making multiple passes over the same area to prevent irritation.
Lack of Price Transparency
The pricing on the website is unclear. While the website lists variations for strip and hard wax, it does not include Lycon wax pricing. I ended up paying £5 more than the advertised price, which wasn’t clearly explained.
Communication and Client Comfort
It is crucial for beauticians to explain their process and check in with clients throughout the treatment. Despite my visible discomfort during the threading, she continued the procedure. She even asked another staff member to hold my eyebrows still because I kept moving. Had she asked me beforehand or respected my discomfort, my experience might have been better.
I chose 123 @Beauty because it offers Lycon waxing, but this experience was disappointing. Please update your website and Treatwell listings to reflect accurate prices and treatment details. Additionally, ensure that beauticians communicate clearly and prioritize client comfort during treatments.
Thank you.
