1 /5 jordynn haik: My boyfriend and I returned from our holiday this summer eager to get fit after all the travel. I’ve never worked out much before, but I came with him to a consultation at BMF URBAN. We met Jackson off the premises, who bought us coffee and described the amazing results we could achieve. I expressed my concerns about lifting weights, saying that even one day of it would leave me unable to walk for a week. I also mentioned my frequent work trips to Monaco, questioning whether I could commit to the program. He pushed me to sign up with no hesitation that it might not be right for me.
Despite my hesitations, we both ended up signing up that morning. The next day, we had a brief 15-minute session to learn about the app and get weighed. After that, I had to travel to Monaco.
Upon realizing that the program was an intense six-week commitment, we concluded it wouldn’t fit with our schedules, especially since I hadn’t even started working out. My boyfriend asked for a refund since we hadn’t used the gym at all.
They refused. We spent ÂŁ1,200 and have never worked out there. Jackson got into a heated argument with my boyfriend and refused to help. Now, every time we pass by, Jackson glares at us, making it really uncomfortable.
My boyfriend filed for small claims and reported the issue to Amex, but it seems BMF (or Urban, as they also call themselves) knows how to handle complaints like ours.
Important Note:
In England, the 14-day cooling-off period allows consumers to cancel certain contracts, including services, after making a purchase. This means you have 14 days from the day after you receive the goods or sign the contract to cancel without giving a reason. To do so, you must inform the service provider within this period, usually via email or a cancellation form.
In England, if you sign up for a membership off the premises, you may have certain rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. Specifically, if you sign up for a service (like a gym membership) at your home or another location that isnt the businesss premises, you typically have a 14-day cooling-off period. This allows you to cancel the contract without penalty.
Im not sure how they are getting away with this law, but we plan to fix that.
BE CAREFUL. This gym is taking money off people that shouldnt be signing up in the first place. A normal trainer would recommend holding off to someone like me until I was in shape to do their style of workouts
