1 /5 ASam Ja: I’m extremely disappointed with how Nuffield Health Chigwell and its staff handled my situation as a disabled member.
I’m a registered Blue Badge holder and have been a full-paying member for two years. Recently, I received a parking charge from MET Parking after using a disabled bay. I forgot to display my Blue Badge due to memory difficulties linked to my disability. I provided proof of my badge and contacted the gym for help, speaking with a staff member named Rebecca.
Unfortunately, Rebecca was dismissive, unhelpful, and unwilling to provide any support. She claimed it was “nothing to do with the gym,” even though Nuffield Health operates the site and could have assisted in resolving the issue. Her attitude made the experience far more stressful and upsetting than it needed to be.
It’s unacceptable that a health and wellbeing centre shows so little empathy or understanding toward disabled members, especially when reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010 are required.
I will be reconsidering my membership as a result, and I hope other disabled people take this experience into account before joining. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and understanding — not indifference.
