1 /5 Roxanne: Awful experience today.
I was a walk in and asked for shape and normal polish on my toes (not a pedicure, no existing gel to take off, just normal polish) and shape and gel
Polish on my hands with existing gel to remove.
The appointment started well, very friendly.
However the lady that did my nails clearly was hired as a favour for somebody, and not her expertise.
It was not the owner, from what I understand, but another lady.
It took a considerable length of time, she made me bleed on 2 different fingers (of which then used an acetone covered cotton pad used to take of my nail polish to try and wipe the blood away…) and the nail polish was so messy. All round my nail beds and on the skin. It looks like I tried to do it myself, and I’m not a nail technician….
Then they tried to charge me £60 for the pleasure. I was furious. So cross. After speaking to the manager and clearing up that I hadn’t had a pedicure, nor gel taken off of my toes, etc.. that it was £40. But at one point in the discussion, there tried to be justification because I had my cuticles cut during the service. Clearly trying to back pedal of how they came to that figure. I knew from online that gel shape and polish was £20…
I wished I had cash on me at the time because I would have put £30 down and walked out. And even that is being generous considering the state of my hands.
Shame as they seemed nice at the start, but I am still so angry at what happened.
Am absolutely baffled as to how that lady passed any exam on nails.
I will be angry about this for a long time.
EDIT / UPDATE: I have since received a call from the owner who profusely apologised for the service received and offered a future manicure by her as compensation, and to prove that is not how they usually operate. I am very grateful to have received that call.
However. On the call it was confirmed that the lady who carried out my initial treatment usually has supervision (as she is newly qualified from college in India), but her supervisor was unavailable that day. On that basis, she should not have been allowed to conduct treatments as she clearly isn’t qualified to practice on her own (otherwise why would she normally have supervision…?). The owner was aware this treatment was being carried out without usual supervision as she very kindly offered me a cup of tea whilst having said treatment.
Writing an honest review isn’t bad for your business. That member of staff is bad for your business, and you allowing her to carry out treatments without supervision when she should have had it, is bad for your business. And this review wouldn’t have been written if the business was conducted as it should have been.
